Nestled in the bustling heart of Richmond, BC, HK BBQ Master stands out as a must-visit destination for lovers of authentic Cantonese barbecue and quick Hong Kong–style comfort food. This lively Chinese restaurant offers a tantalizing array of expertly roasted meats, where generations-old recipes come alive in every perfectly caramelized bite. Situated at 4651 Number 3 Rd, beneath a Superstore with an unassuming entrance from the parking lot, it remains a hidden gem beloved by locals and visitors alike.
The moment you step inside, the mouthwatering aroma of 烧味 (Chinese barbecue) beckons, and the bustling atmosphere blends comforting nostalgia with efficiency. Whether you’re ordering a quick meal after a flight or meeting friends for a casual dinner, the space hums with energy yet moves swiftly—with lines quickly turning over even during peak times.
The menu reads like a love letter to Hong Kong’s vibrant street food scene, featuring favorites such as the Roast Duck, BBQ Pork (Char Siu), Soya Chicken, and the ever-popular Roast Pork on Rice. For those craving variety, the Super Large Platters (超大拼盘) are showstoppers—offering perfectly balanced assortments of roast duck, tender pork, and silky chicken. These substantial platters not only share beautifully but also deliver a satisfying feast for the senses. Each dish is glazed with a rich, glossy finish, the meat tender yet boasting a perfect crispy skin where applicable, layered with subtle smoky undertones and the magic of their house sauces like the famed Magic Sauce and bright Green Onion Sauce.
Alongside the meats, comforting soups like the White Fungus Pork Soup and daily house soups add a warm, nourishing touch to the meal, ideal for balancing the bold flavors of the barbecue. Accompany your feast with a traditional refreshing Lemon Tea or the unique Yuanyang (Coffee with Tea), a beloved Hong Kong concoction that perfectly complements the savory dishes.
Clients consistently applaud HK BBQ Master for its outstanding value, generous portions, and unbeatable taste. Reviewer Carla Cabrera was thrilled to finally try this famed spot after hearing glowing recommendations—and was not disappointed, praising the generous portions and fast, friendly service. Another diner, Louies T, highlights the high-quality roasted pork as “especially outstanding,” though wisely advises ordering ahead for sought-after items like the soy sauce chicken to avoid missing out. Even when faced with long lines—as shared by Wee Khim Lee—the quick service and the genuine quality of food make the wait entirely worthwhile.
The charm of this restaurant lies not only in its delicious menu but in its welcoming vibe that transports you to the bustling street food stalls of Hong Kong. It’s no wonder the place has garnered devoted fans, including a nod from actor Seth Rogen, further cementing its reputation as a Vancouver food gem.
Whether you’re after a satisfying solo meal, a lively dinner with friends, or a feast to share, HK BBQ Master offers a memorable dining experience that celebrates Cantonese barbecue at its finest—flavorful, authentic, and undeniably comforting. Remember to bring cash, prepare for a lively scene, and keep an eye out for their signature combos to make the most of your visit.
Came by here for a quick meal after landing at YVR and heading to Whistler - it was 3 pm and there was a long line outside, unbelievable. Thankfully it moved pretty quickly and were seated after a 20 min wait. Service was prompt and efficient the menu made it easy with numbering. Food arrived soon and it was great quality authentic Cantonese roast dishes. We had roast duck, pork, BBQ and soy chicken, vegetables and soup - all delicious and comparable to what one would find in Asia. Located in a complex with a supermarket upstairs and another across the road. Will return.
CASH ONLY. Popular well known Chinese BBQ meats shop. It is kinda hidden away under Superstore and the entrance is in the parking lot. This place has a great vibe with memories of Asian food shops. There usually is a line-up for the food (there is a fairly quick turnover of tables). Prices are reasonable. The BBQ pork is really delicious and tender. One great feature of this location is plentiful free parking on the property including outside; and there is busy prime covered spots for rainy or snowy days. For a small shop the washroom is clean and very nicely decorated. This is a very efficiently run and busy eatery. #foodievancouver #BBQ #RichmondBC
We had heard good things about this place for long time but we had never been able to make it the last call time. Finally, we were so excited that we got to try this! We arrived a bit earlier than dinner hours around 5 pm ish. I saw a long time and rushed to join, but actually silly me, that line was for take out! We were lucky we could have a table for two right away without any wait. BBQ meats did not disappoint, as delicious as we heard and expected. We had roasted pork and chicken. Surprisingly, their daily soup was very flavourful as well. I guessed they had lots of bones to use up. It was on the slightly oily side but I did not mind about it too much. BBQ meats on rice was the way to go for the first time, better if you have someone with share different meats with. Perhaps ordering meat on rice is not the best deal, compared with ordering meats alone, and that might explain why the takeout line is so long. Their HK coffee and milk tea mix was tasty as well. We have already come back for a few times before I finally get the chance to write this review!
Delicious BBQ! The portion is well served and price is good, super worth it. I wanted to come to this place long time ago and finally made it. It didn't dissapoint, I had high expectations since I heard good things about this place, plus Seth Rogen did a video talking about this Vancouver food gem some time ago, so it's really popular. There is even complementary tea. Staff super fast and friendly. I went on a holiday around 1pm last month (thanksgiving day) and it was not that crowded, I guess I was lucky because I have heard this place is always busy, there was a few line up which ended quickly, I had to wait less than 10 minutes.
This Cantonese BBQ shop is easily one of the most well-known and high-quality spots in the Vancouver area. Their roasted pork is especially outstanding. I’ve tried several times to buy their poached chicken and soy sauce chicken, but they’re always sold out. So if you need it for an important gathering or plan to pick up takeaway with friends, make sure to order ahead or go early.
Good but not worth the hype and the wait. BBQ pork was better than the soy chicken. Sauces were good, as was the rice. Just not sure it can be said to be much better than other places in YVR.
Ordered the soy chicken, char siu pork, and roasted pork combo over rice. The roasted pork was phenomenal. The soy chicken was tender and flavorful, but watch out for bone fragments. The char siu was good, but I got a pretty lean piece so a little dry. Though the line is long, their system is set up pretty efficiently, with a line for dine-in, take out, and pre-order pickup. When the line gets long, and attendant comes out to take your order in advance, so it's more or less ready by the time you get to the front to pay. Overall, I really like this place.
